Search Help

1. SmartNet search features
(1). Web page search
Searches texts in the hyperlinked web pages in the web site.

(2). Menu search
As the web page search covers a wide range, search speed is slower and search result could produce unnecessary information. If the information the user needs is in the main menu, menu searching reduces the search range and search is limited to the information in the web pages in the menu. Thus, search speed is faster and search result is more accurate.
For example, if the user wants to search information on citizen service, search in the "Electronic Citizen Service," and on city(county) policy in the "Office and Division Web Sites" for faster and more accurate result.

(3). Searching all bulletin boards
In the web page search, specific information in the bulletin board is not searched. To search the information in the titles and contents of all bulletin boards in the integrated bulletin board, use the bulletin board search. Then, messages posted can be searched real time.

(4). Searching individual bulletin board
As searching of all bulletin boards searches all bulletin boards, the search range is broad but the search speed is slower. Searching individual bulletin board selects the bulletin board within the information range and searches in the bulletin board only.

(5). Meta search
This search does not limit the search to the web site only. This search method uses web page searches in major Korean search engines(Empas and Naver) and retrieves results.

(6). News search
This method uses news searches in the web sites of major Korean newspapers and retrieves results.

2. Configuration of SmartNet search screen

(1). Search combo box
Consists of Web search, Meta search, News search, All Bulletin Boards search, and Individual Bulletin Board search. The default setting is Web search.

(2). Search tabs
Consists of Web page search, Main menu search, Meta search and News search. Select one to search within the area. For example, when the user searches for search terms "information on citizen service," web page search results are displayed as a default. When the user selects the 'Office and Division Web sites" tab, only the results searched in the office and division web sites are displayed.

(3). Search help
The user can see SmartNet help features. Refer to search help for more advanced search using 'and, or, not'.

(4). Search results
Search results consist of the following.

Title : Shows the web page title tag. If a document does not have a title, it is displayed as "No Title" or "Untitled Document". When the user clicks on the title, the associated web page is opened in a new window.

If it is a bulletin board search result, it is the title of message in the bulletin board.
Click on the title to display the corresponding message in a new window.

Excerpt : Shows the excerpt containing the keyword in about 160 words.
URL : URL of the web page.

*When no result was found

After executing web page search, "Didn't find any pages matching the search term" might be displayed.

It indicates either no information related to the search term was found or one of the following.

(1) The site requires log in
A robot is a program starts from the URL of the web text first visited and visits all web pages linked from there and retrieves documents. When the robot visits a web site that requires log-in, it can not view the content or retrieve the document.

(2) Sites using flash
The robot can not see the flash source, thus it can not retrieve the web page.

(3) Hyperlink is in Java script variable
The robot does not know the Java script variable, and it can not visit the web page.

(4) Robot excluded sites
A web master who does not want his/her web site information to be exposed to search engines might block robots from taking the web page information. In this case, the robot can not retrieve the web page.

(5) Recently updated documents
As the robot visits and retrieves information from the web pages at a regular interval, it reflects recently updated content. However, between the interval, the updated content might not be reflected.
